Editorial Reviews:

Product Description
Ensure the best connection bewteen your speaker cable and your receiver unit with these open-screw banana plugs. Banana plugs also ensure that you'll only have to wire your speakers up once, rather than stuff the unterminated speaker cable into your receiver and hope that it never comes out. Easy To Install Banana plugs make installing speakers much easier. Instead of unscrewing the connectors in the back of your receiver and wrapping the speaker conductor around those screws, utilize the banana plug holes with these banana plugs. Attaching the banana plug to the speaker itself is easy. These open faced banana plugs allow you to simply feed some of the bare copper conductor into the hole and clamp it down with the screw. Daisy Chain Each banana plug also features a female banana plug connection on the bottom, allowing you to connect multiple speakers from a single speaker output. This serves as a splitter, allowing you to mirror the sound as many times as necessary.

These banana plugs make it really convienient to plug in cables to the receiver without it being really messy. The best part is that it really helps bi-amping front speakers (if the speakers allow it). Doesn't like to take small gauge wires though > tough to tighten.

5 out of 5 stars Cheap, useful and practical.   September 3, 2010

Connectors fairly inexpensive, best of all is that they do their job. Simple and practical. No mistakes.

These worked for me. I tested them in both Onkyo receivers (one is a higher power tx-sr805), a old Sony receiver (how embarrassing to admit I have a Sony...jk), my Atlantic Technology speakers, Klipsch speakers and Mission speakers. Never were they loose fitting they always fit snugly but I did not have to "force" them in either. Compression connections take a little getting used to for some, but I have seen a similar connector for KNU car audio power wire. I would recommend going with 12g for a tight connection, and obviously you need to strip a lot more casing off the wire if your going in through the bottom and bend it over the side of the fitting once you've made it though the threads. Leave the excess hanging out one of the holes. Tighten the bottom. Pull on the wire so that your satisfied it's in there. Trim the excess wire sticking out of the hole. I know, it's rocket science.

Full disclosure: I also tested the fit on my old M-504 Onkyo power amp and they WERE LOOSE, loose as in no way to use them loose! Loose as in there muse be different standards of banana plugs loose. So loose that if these did fit in the m-504, they would not have fit anywhere else like speakers or receivers - loose. You get the picture. I even had to edit my review to remove the undue slams to other reviewers. If your running a newer high end receiver (even a flagship) I would not hesitate to buy these, they should work fine (though I offer no guarantee lol).

Do not overpay for this type of connection, buy these. You need like 20 or more anyway.

Bought this from Sewell Direct after reading the +ve and -ve reviews.
My speaker wires are 16 AWG and had no trouble connecting sideways to the banana plugs and snipped off excess wire after tightening the screws. These banana plugs connect to Monoprice High Quality Banana Binding Post Wall Plate for 5 Speaker - Coupler Type. As one reviewer noted, anything less than 12 AWG is too small to connect through the top of the banana plugs. Played back a few good action movies to test the speaker connections with excellent results. I am pleasantly surprised (was prepared for some disappointment based on the negative comments).

I think I'm going to take these off and send them back or throw them away (there's a hefty shipping charge with these plugs). These are the first banana plugs I've ever used, but I really hate the design. They come with no instructions, but if you go to the manufacturer's website you'll find there are two ways to connect them - through the back and through the side - but neither one works. The speaker wire is just not securely attached to the plug. I followed the instructions exactly and twisted them as tightly as I could, but still the wire pulls out with a very gentle tug. These are no good.
