4 out of 5 stars No longer includes leather case   July 16, 2010
David Edmiston (So Cal)
I've purchased three of these drives and three of the docks. This dock used to include a leather case for the drive, which was really convenient. NO MORE!!!

The photos on the product page are misleading, because there's still a photo of the leather case.

Enough ranting about the case though.

The dock is cool. I've been using mine for a little over a year and it's very good. It includes two cables in case you don't have a USB 2.0 port on your system. The transfer speeds are nice and fast.

My only gripe (aside from the case, grrr) is that the drive doesn't really snap into the dock, so the drive isn't held in very securely. The only thing really holding it in is the mini-USB connector, which isn't good enough. If I even slightly nudge the dock or the drive while it's plugged in, the drive comes disconnected and I get a "Delayed Write" error from Windows. Not good!

Besides that, I use it every day and swear by it.

I love my seagate external hard drive! I also got a case logic case, where I can carry the 1 tb and the 500 gb drives....
I would recommend this to anyone, the price and quality relation y awesome.

3 out of 5 stars FreeAgent is good for scheduled backup   June 18, 2010
Parker Hallam (Dallas, TX)
For a scheduled back up it is best to have a Seagate FreeAgent Go Dock. For one, there are not much wires hanging out of my desktop, which makes my desk less messy these days. My FreeAgent Go drives work fine without this, but I paid price for an organized and clean desk. It is so compact that you'll hardly notice it is there. The PC would need two USB ports to have this dock station work but this Go dock has just one USB cable. The problem was, however, with my PC being old. For the new one, this USB cable was sufficient. The dock station came with a leather case as advertised but it doesnt look good. Not to flaunt. I have ordered for the silver though I preferred a black.

4 out of 5 stars Expensive, but worth it.   May 29, 2010

I have 4 Freeagent GO drives and love them!

You don't always want to use the USB cable and lay the drive down though - you sometimes want a nicer presentation, more space or something a big more secure than just sitting it on the desk. That's where this comes in!

This is a stylish dock with a secure connection (no need to worry about the drive when its plugged in to this).

With that said, it's kind of expensive (it seems like it should have been included), but even worse - it only comes in white! With the FreeAgent drives available in all sorts of colors, the white doesn't always match. Something people may not know is that the manufacturer makes a glossy "Piano Black" version of the dock which looks FANTASTIC, but is only available in the expensive Seagate FreeAgent Go Special Edition 500 GB USB 2.0 Portable External Hard Drive and Docking Station ST905003FNA2E1-RK (Black with Chrome Trim) . I actually spend a bit more money to get one of these Special Edition drives the last time I was getting a new drive. If you don't need the fancy look of the black dock, or if you already have a drive, the white does the same thing - just a different color.

The drive has 2 USB plugs on the end - you can use one or both (if it's an old computer, you might need both to give enough power to the drive).

The product is easy to plug the drives into (you don't need to force it) - it even works with the larger 1TB (double-sized) Freeagent GO drives!

One of the other big selling points is that it includes a case (something that should have been included with the drive, not the dock). It's a leathery case - not too much protection (one end is left open) and no storage pockets for cables, but it's slim and better than nothing!
